Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver, even in tight spots.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres and look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the noughties that had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easy to drive, while also looking elegant.

The larger the wheels are, the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front enable you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and 3 wheel pushchair with car seat year old and found it coped well with grass, cobbles rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasionally pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

The size and shape of the seat is another thing to consider. You want the seat to be large enough for your child to feel comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of reclining completely, while others only allow for an adult facing one.

An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to manoeuvre the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature the front wheels that swivel to help you navigate around tight corners, while others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This can also help if you bump into a tree root or stray road, as the front wheel can be lifted up to keep you from hitting it.

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is an issue especially if you're using it to a jogger or to maneuver through doorways that are narrow when you're out and about. Luckily, most models have small folding options that let you remove the front wheels to make compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

One of the major advantages to a three-wheeled buggy is that it can be much easier to maneuver especially with a child in tow. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels rotate at a whim and are extremely easy to maneuver, making them ideal for difficult terrain such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheel baby strollers-wheeler with her toddler, and she reported: "The Terrain is a delight to navigate on uneven terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially useful." I was also impressed with the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when driving downhill or on uneven ground."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel buggy (visit this hyperlink) can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when you live in one of the cities. If this is a problem then a 4-wheel buggy may be better for you.
