It automatically emptys the bin of dust above its charging station, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty it after every run.

It has a wide range of other features that make it an excellent option for most homes, including intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses both a camera and processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It's not often tripped or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests it was the most effective at avoiding objects like power cables. However, it's not as effective in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Eufy owned by Anker, has become an iconic name in the world of low-cost robot vacuums. But it didn't provide a model that could also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features that can compete against more expensive models.

The laser navigation is the main selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have built up an approximate map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into things but the X8's laser mapping system is far more precise. It also takes a lot less time to build up a comprehensive picture of your space and stores multiple maps, which is great for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on bare floors, slinging debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with ease. The Tyres of the X8, despite their circular shape, are very good at grabbing edges and corners. Our tests revealed that it was able to remove 90% of the fur on hard floors.

The mopping mode that is the basic one uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. This is great for spills that are not serious, but you cannot limit the amount of water it uses. However, it does an excellent job of removing pet hair, with a better percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum has excellent cleaning power, stunning design, and a great navigation. It has a few oddities in its operation that keep it from being considered the top smart robot best vacuum cleaner and mop robot.

Like iRobot's latest models and models, the RX2 has dual-sensor mapping technology that utilizes the LIDAR sensor to map out the space and two 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room has been mapped, you can assign virtual no go areas and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also alter the cleaning options, begin cleaning manually, or view live feeds of the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. And its sweeping and suction power are top-notch cleaning up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust in bare floors. It's not the most powerful robot on the market. As with many others it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of metal transition strips.

Some people buy robot vacuums because of the ease of setting up a schedule in an app, and then forgetting about them for weeks. However, it's essential that a robot can do the job, which is the reason our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular ones to help you select the best robot vacuum for the money one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that looks like any other, but comes with several more features and better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and makes use of to navigate and avoid obstructions. It's also able to detect common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, along with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it away from steps, makes it one of the fastest vacs we've tested.

It was able to climb over carpets with thick shags and didn't get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690-). Its navigation skills were also impressive and its overall score on carpet and bare floors was better than the competition and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of the surface litter and embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.

The controls are more basic than competitors. There's an oblong cleaning button at the top, and you can access it via the app, or by voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for weekly or daily cleans, set no-go zones, and see the history of its cleaning. Ion is clad in a smart dark gray plastic that is both attractive and beautiful in your home. The rear dust bin is easy to empty and removing the filter is just as simple.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic, no-frills robot vacuum at a low cost, the Eufy 11S could be a good choice. It doesn't have many of the advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in higher-end models, however, if you don't require those functions you can save cost with this model.

This robot is simple to install and use. It does not require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, however it does have the ability to control the remote with a remote that lets you select different modes and adjust the suction level. You can also send the robotvac on a cleaning schedule.

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's a top performer and, in some ways, the most advanced robot vacuum available. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than its competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary lines through its mobile application. It's a dependable robot vacuum, even if the application is a bit slow and the 980 spins when it comes across cables.

We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It will use this information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a cleaner vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes which grab dirt from carpets and hard floors and an ejector brush that spins to sweep debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. The sensor for floor tracking assists in navigating through furniture as well as along edges and the stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling.
