Cheap Multi Fuel Stoves

The stove comes with an fuel pipe that sits flat on the floor and can be connected to the tank quickly.

While the Primus Omnilite is a fantastic stove, it requires maintenance in order to ensure it is operating properly. It could be dangerous as it flares up when you are priming. This is a common issue with all stoves with liquid fuel that utilize a secondary spindle throttle on the stove's end to vaporize fuel instead of the generator coil.

It takes some time to install, prime, and boil water but the whistler Lite is a reliable camp stove that will not let you down. The flame is very powerful when it is turned to its maximum and can boil one liter of water within two minutes or less. The only downside is that it's not as effective for simmering as other stoves.

This is why MSR has created the Dragonfly stove, which is a more capable simmering burner. It's designed in the same way as the whistler, however it is more compact and offers superior performance. It's not as inexpensive as the Whistler Lite. The Soto Amicus cookset and stove is a great alternative, offering the same setup at half the price. It is also possible to purchase Whisperlite International or Universal for isobutane canisters too. Both versions share the same basic design however the Universal version is also compatible with canister fuel.

Coleman Sportster II

Liquid fuel stoves come with a learning curve as you'll need to pressurize and prepare them to create a beautiful blue flame going. If you don't do it correctly the fuel may get into the tank, splash outside the burner, or sputter. To get the hang of this, practice outside before you go on your trip.

This stove does give up some performance or flame odor effectiveness when using non-coleman fuels but this is a trade-off in exchange for the added flexibility it provides. Make sure to purchase unleaded gasoline, and not one enhanced with methanol or (alcohol). That's because these types of fuel can cause the unit to be sputtering, leaky, and may even explode!

ATG Jiko

The ATG Jiko Multi Fuel Stove from South Africa is an ultralight multifuel designed for harsh environments like Africa. It is a compact, solid stove that can burn solid fuel tabs, gels and alcohol using a single nozzle. It's a lightweight, minimalist design that costs less than most other multifuel stoves and also offers low ownership cost with fuel being cheaper per liter than gas canisters.

Other multifuel stoves feature a separate nozzle per fuel type. This makes them a little fiddly to change over in the rain or without gloves, and adds to their weight. Multifuel stoves that are of the current model utilize a single nozzle to burn multiple fuels, making it easier. These stoves can be called hybrids or compressed fuel multifuel stoves. They are also known by other names such as isobutane, white gas, kerosene and unleaded gasoline/car fuel.

Another option is to purchase an multifuel stove kit which converts your standard Trangia burner into a multi fuel cooker. They are sold in camping stores that specialize in outdoor equipment and can be bought internationally. They are perfect for Trangia enthusiasts. They can burn all liquid fuels except diesel and, with the right accessories, they can also simmer.
